Kempower has introduced a charging unit designed to solve one of the electric trucking industry's most expensive problems: building separate infrastructure for cars and heavy-duty vehicles. The new Mega Satellite Flex supports both the established CCS standard, delivering up to 560 kW, and the emerging Megawatt Charging System, capable of pushing up to 1.2 MW into a truck's battery. Kempower's answer is a single dispenser that can serve either standard from one cabinet, using the same site infrastructure. That's a meaningful shift in how charging hubs get planned. Rather than allocating separate stalls, transformers, and grid connections for cars and trucks, a site operator can install units that flex toward whichever demand shows up first, then adapt as truck traffic grows. The unit also supports 800-volt vehicle architectures, an increasingly common design in newer EVs that allows faster charging without proportionally higher current.
Technical Specifications and Practical Trade-offs
The Mega Satellite Flex is rated for up to 1,500 amps on the MCS side and 700 amps for CCS, figures that put it firmly in the category of heavy-duty infrastructure rather than typical passenger charging equipment. Cable length matters more than it might seem: the CCS cable runs 5 meters, giving passenger vehicles and smaller commercial vans room to park flexibly, while the MCS cable is shorter at 2.7 meters, reflecting the more standardized parking and docking behavior of trucks pulling into freight corridors.
